How to deal with the flow meter fluctuation, try these practical solutions

2024-12-03
Flowmeter fluctuation is a common problem in production, the following are some practical solutions:

Check and adjust the installation position
  • Away from pulsating source:
If the fluid itself is pulsating, such as the use of pumping raw materials, the installation position of the flow meter is relatively close to the pump, it is easy to produce pulsating flow, resulting in flow fluctuations. At this time, the direct pipeline distance between the pump and the flow meter should be increased, or the resistance of the pipeline should be used to weaken the pulsation of the fluid and make the flow stable.
If the installation position of the flow meter is too close to the valve or bend position, it may also cause flow fluctuations when the raw material passes through the valve or bend part. At this time, the position of the flowmeter should be adjusted to keep it away from the valve and the bend pipe to ensure a certain straight front and back pipe section.
  • Avoid interference sources:
If there are interference sources such as motors, frequency converters, and strong electricity near the flow meter, electromagnetic interference may be generated, resulting in flow fluctuations. At this time, you can try to ground the meter, or add a filter capacitor to reduce interference. If the problem persists, consider moving the flow meter away from the source of interference.
  • Optimize environmental conditions:
If the flow meter is installed in an area with unstable environmental conditions, such as wear, vibration or areas with large temperature changes, the flow rate may also fluctuate. At this time, it should be considered to install the flowmeter in a place with stable temperature and small wear, and take corresponding vibration reduction measures.
Check flow meter sensor and wiring
  • Check the sensor:
The flow meter sensor is a key component in measuring flow, and if the sensor fails or becomes less sensitive, it will cause flow fluctuations. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check whether the sensor is working properly, including checking the line contact status of the sensor and whether the signal socket is corroded. If the problem is found, the sensor should be replaced or repaired in time.
  • Check the wiring and terminals:
Poor contact between wiring and terminal may also cause flow fluctuations. Check whether the wiring and terminal of the converter are firm, pull the wiring, shake the cable, knock the converter shell with a screwdriver, and observe whether there is any change to determine whether there is a problem of poor contact.
Select and calibrate flowmeters
  • Choose the right flowmeter model:
Different types of fluids exhibit different flows as they flow through pipes, so different flowmeter models are required. In the selection of flow timing, the appropriate model should be selected according to the actual situation to ensure that the flow meter can work normally and reduce fluctuations.
  • Calibrate flowmeter:
Regular calibration of the flow meter ensures its measurement accuracy. You can use electronic scales and other equipment for actual calibration, if you find that the measurement error of the flow meter is large or poor repeatability, you should contact the supplier in time or ask professionals to assist.
Other maintenance measures
  • Regular maintenance:
Regular maintenance and maintenance of flowmeters can extend their service life and reduce the occurrence of failures. Check whether the internal components are normal, whether the electromagnetic field coil is in good contact, and carry out the necessary cleaning and maintenance work.
  • Ensure full tube measurement:
The measuring pipe of the flowmeter should be filled with liquid to avoid bubbles or the situation that the liquid cannot fill the pipe. This ensures that the flow meter can accurately measure the flow and reduce fluctuations.
  • Cleaning pipes:
Regular cleaning of large particles, gases, foam, etc. inside the pipe can ensure that the fluid can flow properly and avoid the impact on the flow meter.
In summary, to solve the problem of large flow meter fluctuations, it is necessary to start from many aspects, including checking and adjusting the installation position, checking the flow meter sensor and line, selecting and calibrating the flow meter and taking other maintenance measures. Through the effective implementation of these methods, the measurement accuracy and stability of the flowmeter can be significantly improved.
