Advantages and disadvantages of vortex flow meters for compressed air measurement by Aister flow meter manufacturers

2021-05-25

Vortex flowmeter is mainly used for the flow measurement of industrial pipeline medium fluids, such as gas, liquid, vapor and other media. The vortex flowmeter is characterized by small pressure loss, large range, high accuracy, and is almost unaffected by fluid density, pressure, temperature, viscosity and other parameters when measuring volume flow under working conditions. There are no moving mechanical parts, so the vortex flowmeter has high reliability and small maintenance. The instrument parameters can be stable for a long time. Vortex flowmeter adopts piezoelectric stress sensor, high reliability, can work in the operating temperature range of -20℃ ~ +250℃. Vortex flowmeter has analog standard signal, also has digital pulse signal output, easy to use with computer and other digital systems, is a relatively advanced, ideal flow meter. But there are some caveats.

1. The minimum flow of vortex flowmeter
The amplitude of the signal of the vortex flowmeter is proportional to the square and density of the velocity of the measured medium. That is to say, when the detection sensitivity of the vortex flowmeter is certain, the working pressure of the fluid is increased, the density is increased, and the measured flow rate can be reduced. Conversely, under a certain flow rate of the vortex flowmeter, if the working pressure of the fluid is increased and the density is increased, the signal amplitude of the vortex flowmeter is also increased, and the detection sensitivity of the vortex flowmeter can be reduced. For atmospheric gas, the lower limit flow rate of vortex flowmeter can reach 4~5m/s. For pressurized gases, such as compressed air, the lower limit flow rate will be reduced due to the increase in density. Therefore, in the selection, we should consider the actual working condition flow.

2. The influence of vibrating vortex flowmeter
Compressed air is generated by air compressor or high pressure fan. When these devices are in operation, they all have varying degrees of vibration, and sometimes the vibration is relatively strong, and this vibration is transmitted through the connecting pipe. When selecting and determining the position of vortex flowmeter, this influencing factor should be fully considered. In various detection methods, the anti-vibration performance of vortex flowmeter is not the same due to different detection components. For the vortex street of the detection element, the vibration resistance can reach 0.5~1G. When determining the installation position of the vortex flowmeter, it should be as far away from the power equipment such as air compressors and fans as possible.

3. Influence of pulsating flow on vortex flowmeter
Because the gas output by the fan and compressor, most of it contains a certain component of the pulsation. For the vortex flowmeter, the pulsation frequency and amplitude of the gas output by the Roots fan are related to the speed of the waist wheel and the constant displacement volume, and the pulsation frequency is usually 100~200HZ; The reciprocating compressor output gas frequency is low, generally only a few Hertz. In addition, some gas equipment, if the air hammer, pneumatic tools, etc., will also cause air pulsation, and the frequency and amplitude of this pulsation are random.

Aister Instruments has developed a vortex flowmeter that can be used in vibration environments and is sure to be favored by customers.
