What is the role of pressure compensation in vortex flowmeters?

2023-11-27
Vortex flowmeter is a commonly used in the industrial field of flow measurement instruments, its basic working principle is through the measurement of fluid through the vortex inductor formed by the vortex frequency to calculate the flow. However, in practice, the accuracy of vortex flow meters is often affected by pressure changes. Therefore, pressure compensation of vortex flow meters is required to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.

The working principle of the vortex flowmeter is to measure the flow rate of a fluid based on the relationship between the vortex frequency and the flow rate which is proportional to the flow rate. However, according to the principle of fluid mechanics, both the density of the fluid and the pressure change will have an effect on the flow rate. Specifically, when the pressure of a fluid increases, its density increases accordingly, which decreases the flow rate; while when the pressure of a fluid decreases, its density decreases and the flow rate increases. Therefore, if the pressure is not compensated, the vortex flowmeter measured flow rate values may have a certain deviation.

In order to solve this problem, vortex flowmeter is usually equipped with a pressure sensor, through the measurement of the fluid pressure change to compensate. When a vortex flowmeter measures the vortex frequency, it also measures the pressure of the fluid, and then uses the pressure-density relationship to calculate the flow rate. Specifically, according to the ideal gas equation of state, the density of a fluid is related to pressure and temperature, and the pressure measured by the pressure sensor and the temperature of the fluid can be used to calculate the density, thus correcting the flow rate measured by the vortex flow meter.

Pressure compensation is critical to the accurate measurement of vortex flow meters. In some special working conditions, due to the fluid pressure changes, if not compensated, the measurement results may produce large errors. And through the pressure compensation, can reduce the system error, improve the accuracy and stability of measurement. In addition, vortex flowmeter is often used in the field of measurement, such as gas measurement, for the flow measurement accuracy requirements are higher, so the pressure compensation is also particularly important.

Summarize the vortex flowmeter pressure compensation mainly plays the following roles.

1, correct the pressure on the flow of the shadow effect: in some applications the fluid pressure changes may cause changes in the flow in order to accurately measure the flow, the need to compensate for this through the pressure compensation, you can correct the pressure changes on the flow of the impact, thereby improving the accuracy of flow measurement.
2, improve measurement accuracy: in the absence of pressure compensation, if the pressure changes, then the flow rate will also change accordingly, which will lead to inaccurate measurement results. Through the pressure compensation, it can eliminate the influence of pressure change on the flow rate, so as to improve the measurement accuracy.
3, to meet the process requirements: in some processes, the flow measurement accuracy requirements are very high. In order to meet the process requirements, the flow needs to be pressure compensated to ensure that the measurement results are accurate and reliable.
4. Ensure production safety: In some production processes, if the flow measurement is inaccurate, it may lead to production accidents or safety hazards. Through the pressure compensation, you can avoid this situation, so as to protect production safety!

In short, the vortex flowmeter pressure compensation to improve the accuracy of flow measurement, to meet the process requirements and ensure production safety has an important role. By measuring the pressure and temperature of the fluid, as well as the use of pressure-density relationship, you can correct the measured flow rate value, reduce the system error, improve the accuracy and stability of the measurement results. Pressure compensation plays an important role in vortex flowmeters and other flowmeters, and is of great practical significance in the field of industrial production and metering.
