The challenges facing the natural gas flowmeter market

(1) Increased dependence on natural gas imports: With the growth of natural gas demand, limited natural gas reserves are not enough to meet all demand, resulting in an increase in natural gas imports. In 2017, about 38.8% of natural gas was imported from other sources, and it is estimated that this proportion will continue to rise. The increasing dependence on imported natural gas has brought uncertainty to the development of the natural gas industry, which may constrain the development of the natural gas market.
(2) The ability to provide solutions: Using wireless technology and communication technology, the development of natural gas flowmeters has become more intelligent. However, in addition to intelligent flow meters, the development of natural gas flow meters cannot be separated from an integrated solution consisting of an intelligent natural gas network composed of concentrators and information management systems. This system requires enterprises to have manufacturing and R&D capabilities in both software and hardware. This is a huge challenge and limitation for current natural gas flow meter manufacturers.
(3) The low cost of coal and thermal power: coal plays an important role in the energy mix, due to the low price of coal, the cumulative installed capacity of coal is about 70%. Compared with coal, the price of natural gas is relatively high, so for power generation enterprises, coal economy. However, as environmental protection costs increase, so will the operating costs of coal-fired power plants, making natural gas a relatively clean, alternative energy source.
